R-2000

Avalon Home Works Inc. is a certified R-2000 contractor. Here is a brief description about R-2000 and how it can transform your home from Natural Resources Canada. For more information please visit the Natural Resouces Canada website.

What Is R-2000?

Developed in partnership with Canada's residential construction industry,

R-2000 is an initiative of NRCan's Office of Energy Efficiency. It's aim: to promote the use of cost-effective energy-efficient building practices and technologies.

Since being introduced over 20 years ago, the R-2000 Standard has set the benchmark for home building in Canada. The Standard is continually upgraded to include new technologies as they become established in the marketplace. And it's flexible enough to apply to any type of home.

R-2000 Homes Are …

  • Energy efficient: The R-2000 Standard is based on an energy consumption target for each house and a series of technical requirements for ventilation, airtightness, insulation, choice of materials, water use and other factors. The requirements are rigorous – about 40 percent above building codes. The result is new houses that use at least 30 percent less energy than conventional new houses.
  • Comfortable: R-2000 offers Canadians the most comfortable and technologically advanced new homes on the market. They incorporate a whole-house ventilation system and low-emissions building materials and finishes to ensure superior indoor air quality.
  • Environmentally friendly: Today, more than ever, an R-2000 home is the right environmental choice. By using less energy, R-2000 houses produce fewer greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.
  • Certified: Building to the R-2000 Standard requires new home builders to earn a licence by taking special R-2000 training. To date:
    • close to 900 builders have been licensed to build R-2000 homes
    • more than 10 000 R-2000 homes have been built and certified
  • Participation in the initiative is voluntary: Home builders who build to the R-2000 Standard do so because they believe an R-2000 home is a better home. Buyers choose them for their superior energy efficiency, comfort and quality.

The R-2000 Standard is …

  • Broad-based: Provincial home builders associations, provincial governments, product manufacturers, energy utilities – all are among the wide range of R-2000 partners across Canada. The Canadian Home Builders' Association has been a partner in the initiative since day one and remains an active supporter of NRCan'sgoals and activities.
  • Innovative: While other builder training programs have contributed to the improved quality of new housing, ongoing research ensures that the R-2000 Standard remains at the leading edge of cost-effective energy-efficient construction technology. As a result of R-2000, manufacturers have developed many unique building products, such as heat recovery ventilators (now a $50-million-per-year industry in Canada), high-performance windows, and integrated mechanical heating and cooling systems.
  • Respected: As a world leader in energy-efficient housing technology, R-2000 has generated a lot of interest beyond Canada's borders. Today it's licensed for use in Japan.

No matter what style or type of home you're seeking, look into R-2000 before you buy.

Atlantic Home Warranty

Avalon Home Works is proud to offer one of the best warranties in Canada for your new home through Atlantic Home Warranty. Here is a brief description of the warranty as provided by the Canadian Home Builders' Association.

What is the Atlantic Home Warranty?
Buying a home is probably one of the biggest single investments one will make. Protecting that investment is the next step to ensuring comfortable and secure living. Warranties on cars, stereos and even minor kitchen appliances are easily attainable. Ironically, for the biggest investment, few of us even bother to find out if we are protected. The Atlantic Home Warranty Program(AHWP), a non-profit company of Atlantic homebuilders, was established in 1976 to supply this peace of mind. Don't buy a new home without it!

Do Your Homework
Be sure to check with AHWP to find out if your construction company is in fact a Registered Member with the Atlantic Home Warranty Program.

What Housing Units are Covered by the Warranty?
The warranty covers single detached and semi-detached homes, townhouses, rowhouses, condominiums, duplexes and mobile homes. These units must be constructed by a Registered Member, meeting the high quality standards of the National Building Code.
How Long is my House Protected?
The Program offers a basic 7 year limited warranty. However there is a new option to purchase an additional 3 years of protection on your new home. The 10 year warranty is the longest warranty that the organization in the industry. Click

3. Protection against major structural defects during the remainder of the warranty period to a maximum of $30,000.

on the part of the purchaser, and damage caused by dampness or condensation;
4. Detached patios, garages and driveways.

How is my Deposit Protected?
Your deposit is protected through a Program Deposit Receipt that can only be issued by AHWP. When you place a down payment on your home to the builder, the builder will request the Deposit Receipt and the Program will then issue the receipt to the builder at the time of registration of your home. A copy will then be given to you. With a copy of the Deposit Receipt, the Program insures coverage protection of your deposit up to $10,000.
How do I Know When I am Covered by the Warranty?
When your new home is built and ready for occupation, you will complete, sign and date a certificate of possession. Warranty coverage begins once the Program receives their copy of the certificate.* You will then be issued your 7 or 10-year Warranty Vertificate.

What if I Buy or Sell a House Under Warranty?
A warranty from the Atlantic Home Warranty Program is automatically transferable and increases the value of your home. The warranty stays with the house, not the owner. The new owners should contact the Program to determine the remaining warranty coverage.

* The Warranty is subject to
the builder and the purchaser signing the C.O.P. and forwarding the appropriate copy to the Program.
